Rain Dropping from the Eaves Exhibition
I was born in a small city in rural Korea and I grew up surrounded by nature. My play-things were not toys made in factories but gifts of nature, weaving together persimmon leaves and bamboo twigs, and stringing flowers into chains. Down by the little creek we would gather muddy clay and use it to shape our own sculptures, without the aid of a teacher. An awareness and appreciation for nature still shapes my art. Watching the water drip reminded me of a memory from my childhood; on rainy days I would watch the rain drip from the thatched roof of my grandfather's house, the water falling on the muddy ground and making great splashes of mud, digging wet holes into the ground from the force of the water. I try to capture this concept in my painting, "Rain Dropping From the Eaves". When I work this art I felt with deep in nostalgia , When I dripping and sprinkled coffee on flesh canvas .and reminded the memories of childhood and the field of I walk and played remember the moment of memory. I love the sweet scent of earth when the first dropping of heavy rain on the ground. In my current series of paintings I use the medium of coffee to create a combination of textural and sensory evocations. Not only are the dark splashes of brewed coffee visually arresting but the smell and feel of the coffee grounds on the painting are meant to prod the other senses into usage as well. In the background you will hear, faintly, the sounds of water falling, in your hand you may well hold a cup of coffee. Thus all the senses are drawn in, participating together I wish you enjoying the sensibility of all your body. Sight, smell, taste the sense of hearing.
